A Clutch is an important piece of machinery used in the transmission of a vehicle. A manual transmission car cannot shift gears without disengaging the connection between the wheels and the engine. A clutch plate and pressure plate work on the principle of friction. When the clutch plate is not engaged, springs keep the pressure plate against the fly wheel. The fly wheel connects the engine to the driveshaft and transfers motion to the wheels.
The clutch assembly has a pressure plate and a release lever mechanism. The pressure plate clamps the driven friction disc between the clutch plate and the flywheel. The pressure plate is attached to the flywheel by bolts, and the drive plate is rotated with it. The pressure plate has a pressure spring at its back and uses springs and a diaphragm to exert constant force on the driven plate. When the clutch is disengaged, the pressure plate returns to its normal position.
When a clutch is disengaged, it releases the torque transmitted to the engine. There are several types of clutches for different applications, including industrial and automotive applications. Industrial-grade clutches must be capable of transferring maximum torque to the engine without causing any vibration. The clutch should also be lightweight so that it occupies minimal space. This design is critical when operating a manual transmission. If you are unfamiliar with clutches, let us explain a little more about their purpose.
